As part of the class Design for Exploration, this piece is an exhibit to demonstrate the principle of a plasma speaker on the floor of the Exploratorium. An added interactive lever varies the size of arc gap, which in effect changes the volume. The clear side walls are a window to the internal electrical components and provide a demystifying look into an effect that at first seems magical.
